The only question that matters
Do you actually get to drive the quad yourself?
A “Gozo quad tour” can be you on the bike, you on the back, a UTV with a steering wheel, or a tuk tuk with a chauffeur. Use this page, then open the matching category.
If you want the handlebars
Book a true self-drive quad. Choose the driver option, not the passenger seat. You need a valid car license, usually held for a year or more, and you need to be 21 on most operators. Helmets are included. The roads are narrow. If gravel makes you nervous, do not start here.
If you want an open 4x4, not a bike
That is a UTV tour: a 6-seater or a ride-along safari, same island loop as a jeep, more wind. On the listings we feature, you are usually a passenger. Confirm the driver line before you pay.
If you want a small 4WD with a chauffeur
Book a chauffeured buggy. A driver takes the lanes. You take the photos. This is not a self-drive quad and not a tuk tuk.
If you do not want to drive at all
UTV ride-alongs and buggies above both work. Or book a jeep safari for a shared 4x4, or a tuk tuk for a road tour. A tuk tuk is not off-roading.
Read the inclusions
Look for “self-drive,” “driver-guide,” and “valid driving license.” A listing titled chauffeured e-jeep can still put you at the wheel. If it asks for a license, you are the driver.
Short answers
- Do I drive, or does a guide?
- On a self-drive quad, sunset buggy, Ryker, or e-jeep, you drive — typically 21+ with a full car license. Pride’s 6-seater UTV, Arrigo’s 4WD, Barbarossa’s buggy, the jeep safaris, and every tuk tuk put a local at the wheel. Pick the driver option if you want the handlebars.
- Do I need a driving license?
- Only if you drive. Operators usually want a full car license, held for about a year. Passengers on the back of a quad or in a 6-seater do not need one. Sit-back tours — UTV ride-along, chauffeured buggy, jeep, tuk tuk — skip the license test.
- What’s the difference between a quad, UTV, buggy, jeep, and tuk tuk?
- A quad (or ATV) is the bike you straddle. A UTV is an open 4x4 with seats in a row — often a 6-seater. A buggy here is a small 4WD, sometimes self-drive at sunset, sometimes with a chauffeur. A jeep safari is a shared 4x4, or a small e-jeep you drive. A tuk tuk is a chauffeured road taxi with forward-facing seats.
- Do these tours include the Blue Lagoon?
- Usually as a boat pass-by or a short swim, not a beach day. Cominology and Arrigo often add Crystal Lagoon. Pride’s jeep and UTV tours return by private boat past the caves. Barbarossa lists about 45 minutes in the water off Comino. Weather decides.
- Can I start from Malta?
- Yes. Almost every tour we list picks up in Malta, crosses to Gozo, runs the island loop, and comes back the same afternoon or evening. Sunset buggy and tuk tuk tours start later and aim for Ċirkewwa around 9pm.
- What should I wear?
- Clothes you do not mind getting dusty, closed-toe shoes, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Bring swimwear in summer. A light layer for the boat. If you drive, bring the physical license — a photo on your phone is not enough.
